The Open Government Partnership (OGP) in Kano State has taken steps to strengthen its reform process following a multi-stakeholder meeting aimed at advancing transparency, accountability, and inclusive governance.
The engagement, convened by the OGP Secretariat, brought together representatives from government and civil society to deliberate on key priorities and align stakeholders on ongoing reforms. It also provided an opportunity to integrate the newly constituted Government Steering Committee into the state’s OGP process.
The meeting further enabled members of the outgoing Civil Society (CS) Steering Committee to engage directly with incoming government officials, a move aimed at preserving institutional memory and ensuring continuity in the implementation of reform initiatives.
A major outcome of the meeting was the decision by the CS Steering Committee to conduct elections for new members, following the completion of its tenure. The move is expected to promote balanced representation and strengthen collaboration between civil society and government actors in line with OGP global standards.
The Secretariat disclosed that preparations for the election are already underway, with logistical arrangements in progress. The election process is expected to be concluded before the end of April.
According to the Secretariat, efforts will be made to ensure that the process is free, fair, and credible, allowing for the emergence of a diverse group of civil society representatives. The new committee is expected to continue the implementation of the state’s approved Action Plan while sustaining ongoing reforms.
In a report issued by head of the Secretariat, Musaddiq Kabir Adam, he reaffirmed the commitment of the partnership to strengthening open governance in Kano State, adding that further details on the election process would be communicated in due course.
