The government of Iran has expressed its readiness to support Nigeria in tackling terrorism, citing the shared security challenges faced by both nations.
Iran’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Gholamreza Mahdavi Raja, made this known during an interview on ARISE News on Sunday, where he emphasized that Tehran considers Nigeria an important partner in confronting violent extremism.
According to the envoy, Iran strongly condemns terrorism in all its forms and is willing to cooperate with countries facing similar threats.
“Iran condemns terrorism of any kind and stands ready to cooperate with countries grappling with it,” Raja said.
The ambassador referenced Nigeria’s ongoing battle against insurgent groups such as Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), noting that Iran understands the gravity of the situation due to its own experiences with terrorist activities.
Raja explained that Iran’s offer of support is rooted in solidarity with nations confronting violent extremism.
“As a victim of terrorism ourselves, we condemn terrorism in Nigeria. Nigeria faces security challenges from Boko Haram and ISWAP, and we are ready to support the government in combating terrorism,” he stated.
He further noted that Nigeria continues to face persistent security threats and reaffirmed Iran’s willingness to assist in addressing these challenges.
The ambassador concluded by stressing that terrorism is not only a domestic concern but also a global issue that requires collective action. He added that stronger partnerships between countries confronting similar threats would contribute to improved regional and global security.
