Governor Siminalayi Fubara has withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election in Rivers State.
Fubara announced his decision in a statement personally issued on Wednesday, explaining that his withdrawal was motivated by the need to promote peace, unity, and stability in the state.
According to the Rivers governor, his decision to step aside should not be viewed as an act of fear, weakness, or surrender, but rather as a sacrifice aimed at ensuring the state moves forward peacefully.
“Let it be clearly understood that I stepped aside from participating in the upcoming Rivers State gubernatorial election not out of weakness, fear or surrender, but out of conviction and sacrifice so that Rivers State may move forward in peace and unity,” he stated.
Fubara also reaffirmed his commitment to serving the people of Rivers State until the completion of his tenure.
The governor’s withdrawal comes amid ongoing political developments and heightened interest surrounding the APC governorship contest in the state ahead of the next election cycle.
