Human rights activist and presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has been remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre following proceedings in his ongoing alleged cybercrime case before the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The development followed an earlier ruling delivered on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, when Justice Mohammed Umar revoked Sowore’s bail and issued a bench warrant for his arrest after he failed to appear in court for the continuation of his trial.
Sowore is facing a two-count charge filed by the Department of State Services (DSS) over social media posts in which he allegedly described President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a “criminal.”
Prior to the latest proceedings, Sowore had informed the court that he would represent himself after members of his legal team withdrew from the case. He told the court he intended to continue his defence pending the engagement of a new legal team.
The court had previously dismissed Sowore’s application seeking Justice Umar’s recusal from the matter over allegations of bias. Following the revocation of his bail, the judge ordered that he be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending further proceedings.
The case is expected to continue on Wednesday as the court resumes hearing in the matter.
