Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has been named Financial Architect Governor of the Year 2026 by Daily Independent Newspaper, following what was described as a rigorous selection process.
The Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief of the newspaper, Steve Omanufeme, announced that the governor emerged top among several nominees after undergoing a three-stage evaluation process.
According to Omanufeme, the selection involved public voting, assessment by a panel of judges, and final approval by the newspaper’s Board of Editors, which ultimately produced Governor Yusuf as the winner.
The award ceremony was held at Eko Hotel and Suites as part of activities marking the newspaper’s golden jubilee celebration.
Governor Yusuf was represented at the event by the Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, who received the award on his behalf.
In a statement issued after the event, Waiya said the award reflects the governor’s financial prudence and fiscal discipline, which he noted have significantly transformed Kano State’s revenue profile.
According to the statement, the state’s internally generated revenue, which stood between N37 billion and N40 billion in 2023, rose to over N100 billion by the end of the 2025 fiscal year.
Waiya added that the improvement in revenue generation was achieved through deliberate reforms, disciplined management of public funds, and increased public confidence driven by the execution of tangible infrastructure projects across the state.
The statement further noted that the recognition underscores the administration’s commitment to strengthening financial governance and sustaining economic growth in Kano State.
