The Director General, Media and Publicity at the Kano Government House, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, has alleged that former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is indirectly or strategically working towards the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Dawakin Tofa made the remarks during an appearance on Arise TV’s Morning Show, where he addressed ongoing political developments and alignments ahead of the next election cycle.
According to him, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had reportedly approached President Bola Ahmed Tinubu regarding plans to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), adding that the move allegedly had the consent of Kwankwaso and former Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo.
He claimed the political consultations were part of wider strategic engagements currently taking place behind the scenes as politicians prepare for the 2027 elections.
Dawakin Tofa further argued that recent political activities involving Kwankwaso suggest that the former governor may be positioning himself in a way that could ultimately favour President Tinubu’s second-term ambition.
According to him, the opposition camp is already witnessing internal divisions and conflicting interests, which he said may weaken efforts to challenge the ruling APC in 2027.
Speaking on the political atmosphere in Kano State, the government spokesperson stated that former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, may find it difficult to gain political acceptance in the state due to Kano’s conservative political structure and ideological leanings.
He also alleged that several political actors opposed to a Yoruba presidency are currently engaged in consultations across parts of the South-West, including Abeokuta and Ibadan, as part of ongoing political maneuvering ahead of the next presidential election.
Dawakin Tofa described Kwankwaso as a politician whose recent political decisions have created confusion within the opposition, adding that such developments may eventually work in favour of President Tinubu and the APC.
Reacting to claims that about five million supporters attended a recent political gathering at Kwankwaso’s residence, Dawakin Tofa dismissed the figure as unrealistic and exaggerated.
He argued that the residence could not accommodate such a large crowd, noting that even major venues in Kano, including the Sani Abacha Stadium, have limited capacity.
The Kano Government spokesperson also maintained that political alliances built on conflicting ideologies may struggle to succeed in governing a country as complex as Nigeria.
According to him, the growing political narratives and alignments ahead of 2027 continue to shape discussions across the country as parties and key political figures reposition themselves for the next general election.
