A Rivers State politician, Blessing Fubara, has declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Rivers State under the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
The governorship aspirant has already obtained the nomination and expression of interest forms required to participate in the race ahead of the 2027 elections.
Blessing Fubara shares the same surname and local government area with the current Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.
Both men are from Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area, although there has been no official confirmation that they are related.
The Chairman of the NDC in Rivers State, Success Jack, confirmed that Blessing Fubara is among those seeking the party’s governorship ticket.
According to him, the party is preparing seriously for the 2027 general elections and is hopeful of winning the governorship seat alongside other elective positions in the state.
Success Jack, however, stated that he could not confirm whether the governorship aspirant is related to Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The development comes weeks after Blessing Fubara defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the NDC.
Following his defection in Abuja, he was received by former Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, alongside other leaders and members of the party.
Speaking after joining the NDC, Blessing Fubara said his decision was taken in the interest of Rivers people and to safeguard the future of the state ahead of the next general election.
He also expressed optimism that Rivers State would witness positive political changes after the 2027 polls.
