Kano CSOs Hold One-Day Orientation on Open Government Partnership

Civil society organisations in Kano under the Kano Patriotic CSO Coalition Forum have convened a one-day orientation seminar focused on the Open Government Partnership (OGP), aimed at strengthening transparency and inclusive governance.

The orientation held at the Mallam Aminu Kano Center for Democratic Studies, Mumbayya House, which brought together members of civil society organisations in Kano and other stakeholders, was designed to deepen understanding of the OGP framework and its relevance to governance processes in Kano State and beyond.

According to the organisers, the meeting sought to create awareness on the principles and operational framework of the Open Government Partnership, while also identifying key thematic areas to guide coordinated stakeholder engagement.

Convener of the forum Mallam Hassan Gama aka Masses First emphasized the importance of collaboration among civil society organisations and other actors in advancing accountability and improving service delivery. Participants were also encouraged to promote inclusive participation in governance processes, ensuring that citizens’ voices are reflected in policy decisions.

A major focus of the session was strengthening advocacy efforts around transparency and accountability, with discussions highlighting the need for sustained engagement between government institutions and civil society groups.

The meeting further underscored the importance of integrating climate change considerations into governance discourse, as part of broader efforts to address emerging development challenges.

The orientation marks a step toward building a more coordinated civil society approach to governance reforms in line with global best practices under the Open Government Partnership framework.
