President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday held separate meetings with former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and former Minister of Defence, Muhammadu Badaru Abubakar, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The purpose of the meetings was not disclosed, as both visitors declined to speak with State House correspondents after their engagements with the president.
The meetings come amid heightened political and security developments across parts of the country. In the North-East, particularly Borno State, there have been renewed attacks on military formations by insurgent groups.
In a related development, the Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, recently dissolved the State Executive Council, directing commissioners to hand over to permanent secretaries. The move is believed to allow political appointees interested in contesting the 2027 elections to pursue their ambitions.
Meanwhile, political activities in Kano State have intensified following the defection of former governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to the African Democratic Congress.
Although no official link has been established, the meeting between President Tinubu and Ganduje has fueled speculation about ongoing political consultations, particularly in relation to emerging opposition dynamics ahead of the 2027 general elections.
