The Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar III, has called on Nigeria’s armed forces to adopt a more proactive and decisive approach in tackling terrorism across the country.

His remarks follow recent deadly bomb explosions in Maiduguri, which resulted in multiple casualties and injuries. Speaking while announcing the end of Ramadan and the sighting of the moon for Eid al-Fitr, the Sultan strongly condemned the attacks.

He questioned whether the country was relapsing into a period of heightened insecurity, urging security agencies to intensify efforts to curb insurgency and prevent further violence.

According to him, security operations must shift from reactive to offensive strategies, stressing that authorities should take the fight directly to terrorist hideouts rather than waiting for attacks to occur.

The monarch also reiterated that acts of terrorism have no basis in Islam, describing such violence as completely un-Islamic and cautioning against associating the religion with criminal activities.

He further urged the government to demonstrate strong political will in ensuring the safety of all citizens, regardless of ethnic or religious background, and to decisively eliminate criminal elements threatening national stability.

The Sultan extended his condolences to the government and people of Borno State, as well as families affected by the attacks, praying for the souls of the deceased and quick recovery for the injured.

He concluded by calling on Nigerians to continue promoting unity, peace, and harmonious coexistence across the country.
