The Nigerian Medical Association, Delta State branch, has rejected the authenticity of a histology report being circulated online by social media influencer Blessing Okoro, who recently claimed she was battling Stage 4 cancer and solicited financial support from the public.

In a statement jointly signed by the State Chairman, Dr. Israel I. Adaigho, and the Secretary, Dr. Usamah E. Hannah, the association stated that the document being shared online was altered and did not originate from the diagnostic centre mentioned by the influencer.

The NMA explained that its attention was drawn to a histology report allegedly issued by Xinus Medical Diagnostics and reportedly signed by consultant pathologist, O. A. Odigwe. However, the association clarified that the diagnostic facility has denied issuing such a report to Blessing Okoro.

According to the statement, the proprietor of Xinus Medical Diagnostics, Dr. Odigwe—who is also a member of the NMA Delta State chapter—contacted the association to provide clarification and details regarding the original report circulating online.

The association further noted that contrary to claims in the viral document, the diagnostic centre is not located in Enugu State but in Asaba, Delta State, and did not at any time issue any histology report to Blessing Okoro.

Providing further clarification, the NMA disclosed that the laboratory had conducted a medical test in May 2025 for a different patient identified as Deborah Mbara. The test, according to the association, was requested by a doctor from a private hospital in Asaba for confirmation of a suspected breast cancer case.

The association stated that the test was carried out and the result was officially released on May 9, 2025, to the referring doctor. It added that the authentic version of the report, bearing the name of the actual patient, is currently being circulated by a legal firm, Allen Juris Law.

The NMA stressed that the version of the document allegedly linked to Blessing Okoro had been altered and is now being used in connection with her claim of having Stage 4 cancer.

The association said the clarification became necessary in order to prevent misinformation and protect the integrity of the medical profession. It urged members of the public to verify sensitive health-related claims before making donations or drawing conclusions.

Reaffirming its commitment to professional standards, the NMA emphasised that the reputation of its members must not be undermined through the misuse of medical documents.

The association also called on relevant authorities and law enforcement agencies to investigate the matter and take appropriate action to prevent members of the public from being misled.
