Kwankwaso Set to Join ADC Amid NNPP Leadership Crisis

By Nworisa Michael

Former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is reportedly set to defect from the New Nigeria Peoples Party to the African Democratic Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Sources indicate that the planned move follows recent legal developments surrounding the leadership crisis within the NNPP, particularly a court ruling that affirmed a faction not aligned with Kwankwaso.

It was gathered that preliminary contacts have been initiated with ADC stakeholders, with close associates of the former governor reportedly engaging party leaders as part of ongoing consultations.

In Kano, the ADC has continued to gain traction, a development party insiders attribute to the leadership of the State Chairman, Hon. Musa Shaibu Ungogo. His efforts in strengthening party structures and mobilizing grassroots support have contributed significantly to the party’s rising profile.

Further information available to Talkexprex suggests that Kwankwaso is expected to formally join the ADC on Saturday, March 28, although official confirmation is still awaited.

Despite the reported development, sources within the party maintain that no final agreement has been reached regarding control of party structures. The ADC is said to be committed to conducting open congresses and inclusive primaries for all aspirants.

Should the move materialize?, it could significantly reshape the political landscape in Kano State and influence alignments ahead of the 2027 elections.
