The Kano State Government has announced a set of guidelines for the upcoming Eid-el-Fitr Durbar celebrations, citing security concerns and the need to maintain peace and order across the state.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, the government said it received credible intelligence reports indicating attempts by some individuals to create confusion and possibly disrupt the festivities.
According to the statement, the government, led by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, remains committed to preserving Kano’s cultural heritage but will not compromise its constitutional responsibility to protect lives and property.
Following consultations with the Kano Emirate Council and other key stakeholders, the government approved specific arrangements for the traditional Durbar activities.
Under the new guidelines, the Hawan Idi (Eid Durbar) will be conducted by the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, beginning from the Kofar Mata Eid Praying Ground and proceeding through designated routes to Gidan Shettima, before terminating at Kofar Fatalwa of the Emir’s Palace.
The government also announced that the Hawan Nasarawa procession will take place in a modified form but without the traditional horseback display.
Meanwhile, the Hawan Daushe has been suspended for the current celebration and is expected to be observed during subsequent Sallah festivities. Similarly, Hawan Fanisau and Hawan Dorayi have been suspended for the time being in the interest of public safety.
The state government directed security agencies to intensify surveillance and ensure strict compliance with the guidelines in order to prevent any breach of peace before, during and after the Sallah celebrations.
Residents were also urged to remain calm, law-abiding and cooperative with security operatives, while avoiding the spread of unverified information.
The government further commended security agencies for their dedication and professionalism in maintaining stability in the state and assured residents of its commitment to ensuring a peaceful and hitch-free Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
The statement concluded with the government extending its best wishes to Muslims in the state and across the country for a peaceful and joyous Sallah celebration.
