JUST IN: Last Opposition Governor in Northwest, Dauda Lawal, Finally Defects to APC

By Nworisa Michael

The Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The announcement was made on Monday at the Government House in Gusau, marking a significant political shift in the North-West state.

Lawal’s deputy, Mani Malam Mummuni, confirmed the development, stating that the decision followed extensive consultations with political stakeholders and leaders across the state.

According to the governor, his decision to leave the PDP was influenced by the lingering internal crisis within the party and the need to align with the federal government to accelerate development in the state.

The defection is expected to strengthen the APC’s political presence in the North-West region and further reshape the political landscape ahead of future elections.

Governor Lawal, who was elected under the PDP platform in the 2023 general elections, becomes the latest high-profile political figure to switch allegiance amid ongoing political realignments across the country.
