JUST IN: DSS Detains El-Rufai as Court Adjourns Bail Ruling to April 14

Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) on Wednesday took former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, into custody shortly after proceedings at the Federal High Court in Kaduna.

El-Rufai, who is facing trial over alleged corruption charges filed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, had just concluded a hearing on his bail application when DSS operatives escorted him into a waiting vehicle and reportedly transported him to Abuja.

Security presence around the court had been visibly heightened ahead of the hearing, with several DSS vehicles stationed at strategic points—fueling speculation about a possible arrest. The former governor arrived at the court at about 9:05 a.m., drawing attention from both security personnel and observers.

Speaking to journalists after the session, lead defence counsel, Oluwole Iyamu (SAN), confirmed that the court has fixed April 14, 2026, for ruling on the bail application.

“The bail application has been argued and responses taken. The court has adjourned for ruling till April 14. We are hopeful and await the court’s decision,” he said.

Iyamu also disclosed that the defence team is preparing for a separate matter involving the DSS scheduled for April 10 at the Federal High Court in Abuja. He noted that all necessary legal processes have been filed and the team is ready to proceed.

The development adds a new twist to the ongoing legal battle involving the former governor, as attention now shifts to the court’s decision on his bail application.
