A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, Nasiru Gawuna, has resigned as Chairman of the Governing Board of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN).

Gawuna’s resignation, conveyed in a letter dated March 27, 2026, takes immediate effect and was said to be in compliance with a directive by Bola Ahmed Tinubu requiring political appointees to step down ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In the letter, Gawuna stated that his decision aligns with the provisions of the Electoral Act, noting that he was acting in strict adherence to the President’s instruction.

He expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for the opportunity to serve, describing his tenure at the bank as impactful and fulfilling, and reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring a smooth transition in line with established procedures.

The former governorship candidate is also expected to finalise his defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) amid ongoing political realignments linked to Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

Gawuna further stated that he would seek divine guidance in determining his next political steps.

His resignation adds to a growing list of political appointees stepping down in line with the President’s directive, as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections continue to reshape alignments across the country.
