FG Approves N48bn for Engineering Upgrades in 12 Universities

The Federal Government has approved N48 billion for the upgrade of engineering facilities in 12 selected universities across the country.

Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, announced the development on Monday during the inauguration of the Implementation Committee on Special High-Impact Intervention Projects of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) in Abuja.

According to the minister, each of the beneficiary institutions will receive N4 billion to either modernise existing facilities or construct new engineering workshops where necessary.

The universities listed for the intervention include:

  1. Federal University of Technology, Minna
  2. Federal University of Technology, Akure
  3. Federal University of Technology, Babura
  4. Federal University of Technology, Ikot-Abasi
  5. Federal University of Technology, Owerri
  6. Nigerian Army University, Biu
  7. African Aviation and Aerospace University
  8. Shehu Shagari University of Education
  9. Enugu State University of Medical and Applied Sciences
  10. University of Ilesa
  11. Delta State University
  12. Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University

Alausa added that beyond the N48 billion intervention, an additional N20 billion has been captured in the 2026 TETFund guidelines to support further upgrades of engineering facilities in other selected universities.

He noted that the initiative is aimed at strengthening practical training, improving infrastructure, and enhancing the overall quality of engineering education in Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.
