Residents of Etiti Ngwo in Enugu State have raised alarm over what they describe as unlawful demolitions of homes, businesses, and properties, calling on Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah to urgently intervene.
The affected residents accused the Enugu State Geographic Information System (ENGIS) of carrying out the demolitions without prior notice, consultation, or consideration for those impacted.
According to the community members, the exercise has led to the destruction of lifelong investments, leaving many residents distressed and uncertain about their future.
They claimed that no clear timeline was provided before the demolitions began, adding that the situation has now escalated to a critical point, with innocent individuals bearing the consequences of actions they say they were never informed about.
The residents also directed their grievances at the Chairman of ENGIS, Chiwetalu Nwatu, accusing him of exceeding his authority and acting without proper accountability.
They called on the state government to immediately halt the demolitions, restore due process, and ensure that no property is taken down without fair treatment and adherence to legal procedures.
The community further urged Governor Mbah to rein in the agency and address their concerns to prevent further escalation of tensions in the area.
