The Kano State Police Command has announced a notable reduction in criminal activities across the state in the first quarter of 2026, attributing the progress to improved policing strategies and strengthened collaboration with key stakeholders.

The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, made this known on Tuesday during a press briefing held at the Command Headquarters in Bompai, Kano, where he reviewed the security situation and achievements recorded within the period.

Bakori explained that the restructuring of the command has significantly enhanced operational efficiency and service delivery, enabling quicker responses to emerging security threats. He noted that the command’s 2026 roadmap focused on community policing, intelligence-driven operations, and capacity building is already producing positive outcomes.

Highlighting key successes, the police commissioner pointed to the impact of “Operation Kukan Kura,” which he said has played a crucial role in tackling thuggery and violent activities across the state.

He added that coordinated efforts with the state government and other security agencies have helped prevent the infiltration of bandits into Kano, while also addressing farmers-herders conflicts through dialogue and peaceful engagement.

According to Bakori, several suspects connected to crimes such as armed robbery, kidnapping, drug trafficking, and cybercrime have been apprehended and prosecuted, with stolen items successfully recovered.

In a major development, the commissioner revealed that over 2,000 suspected drug dealers have been identified through intelligence gathering and are currently being profiled for further action.

He commended the support of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, as well as the Kano State Government under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, and residents of the state.

Bakori assured that the command remains committed to sustaining its efforts to ensure Kano continues to enjoy peace and security.
