Former Nasir El-Rufai on Saturday received a wave of condolence visits from prominent political figures, associates, and well-wishers at his Abuja residence following the death of his mother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai.

The late matriarch reportedly passed away on Friday in Cairo, Egypt, after a period of illness.

Among those who visited were former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, who joined other dignitaries in offering condolences to the bereaved family.

Also present were former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal and former Attorney General of the Federation Abubakar Malami, underscoring the broad political presence at the gathering.

The condolence visits come amid heightened public attention following El-Rufai’s recent release from the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, where he had been held since February 18 over allegations of financial misconduct. He was reportedly granted release on compassionate grounds to attend his mother’s burial.

During his visit, Amaechi, in a video shared by the African Democratic Congress, questioned the circumstances surrounding the release, suggesting that the charges against El-Rufai were politically motivated.

The gathering drew a large number of sympathisers, reflecting El-Rufai’s influence across Nigeria’s political landscape.
