Jonathan Has Purchased 2027 PDP Presidential Nomination Form – Umar Sani

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party and former presidential aide, Umar Sani, has claimed that former President Goodluck Jonathan has already obtained a presidential nomination form ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Sani, who served as Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to former Vice President Namadi Sambo, made the disclosure during an interview on Trust TV on Tuesday.

His comments come amid growing speculation over a possible political comeback by Jonathan following recent consultations across political circles.

Although the former president has yet to officially declare his intention to contest or confirm the political platform he may use, Sani insisted that Jonathan’s actions already demonstrate clear interest in the race.

According to him, procuring a nomination form is a major indication of political intent, adding that the former president was preparing to publicly submit the forms.

Sani dismissed suggestions that the PDP was merely attempting to use Jonathan’s popularity for political relevance, stressing that party stakeholders believe he remains the best option for the country at the moment.

He also expressed confidence that the legal suit challenging Jonathan’s eligibility to contest the presidency again would not succeed, arguing that the matter had already been settled by previous court decisions.

According to Sani, only the Supreme Court could overturn earlier rulings on the issue, adding that the case before Justice Peter Lifu would likely be dismissed when it comes up on May 26.

The PDP chieftain further stated that many Nigerians remain emotionally attached to Jonathan because of memories associated with his administration, noting that public perception of his tenure has changed over time.

Jonathan served as Nigeria’s president from 2010 to 2015 before losing his re-election bid to former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Since leaving office, the former president has largely focused on diplomatic and mediation roles across Africa while maintaining a low profile in partisan politics.
