The Kano State House of Assembly has confirmed Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo as the new Deputy Governor of Kano State following his successful screening and approval by lawmakers during plenary.
The confirmation came after the presentation and adoption of the report of the ad hoc committee set up to screen the nominee. The plenary session was presided over by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Jibril Isma’il Falgore.
Presenting the committee’s report, the Chairman of the committee and Deputy Speaker, Hon. Muhammad Bello, said Garo’s nomination followed the resignation of the former Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo.
He explained that the screening process was conducted in accordance with Section 191(3)(c) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), which empowers the State House of Assembly to approve a deputy governor nominee in the event of a vacancy.
According to Bello, the nominee underwent a detailed screening exercise which included an extensive question-and-answer session on his educational qualifications, professional background, understanding of governance, and vision for the development of Kano State.
He noted that the committee also thoroughly verified Garo’s credentials and found him qualified for the position.
The committee stated that Garo demonstrated a strong understanding of the responsibilities attached to the office of Deputy Governor and presented a practical vision aimed at supporting the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in delivering effective governance and development across the state.
Based on its findings, the committee recommended his confirmation as Deputy Governor, a recommendation that was unanimously adopted by members of the House.
Following the adoption of the report, Speaker Falgore put the matter before the lawmakers during plenary, and the House unanimously approved the nomination, formally confirming Murtala Sule Garo as the new Deputy Governor of Kano State.
The Assembly also reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the executive arm of government in promoting good governance, accountability, and sustainable development in the state.
Garo’s confirmation comes days after Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf transmitted his name to the Assembly for screening and approval, following consultations with key political stakeholders across the state.
