Fresh Twist as Atiku Speaks on Alleged Defection to NDC Amind 2027 Political Moves

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has dismissed reports linking him to alleged defection talks with the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The clarification follows recent political developments involving Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, who have reportedly joined the NDC, sparking speculation about possible alliances to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the next election cycle.

Reacting to the rumours, Atiku’s media aide, Paul Ibe, denied any ongoing discussions between the former vice president and the NDC, stating that no such engagement exists.

Atiku, a prominent member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), is expected to remain a major contender in the 2027 presidential race, which could mark another bid for the presidency.

Meanwhile, he has announced plans to visit the United States to engage key stakeholders on Nigeria’s security, governance, and economic challenges.

He warned of what he described as a growing internal crisis in the country, stressing that any government unable to guarantee citizens’ safety risks losing the moral basis of its mandate.

The unfolding developments point to increasing political realignments and strategic positioning among opposition figures as the 2027 elections draw closer.
