The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has accused the Federal Government of showing preferential treatment toward Christians over Muslims, citing the ongoing construction of a N25 billion ecumenical chapel at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja and what it described as unequal distribution of relief funds across affected states.
In a statement released on Friday, the Executive Director of Muslim Rights Concern, Ishaq Akintola, criticized the government over what he called “preferential treatment” and demanded clarification on the decision to build the multi-billion-naira chapel in collaboration with the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).
Akintola said the project had generated concern among Muslims, alleging that it reflected a pattern of religious imbalance in government decisions and public resource allocation.
MURIC also questioned the reported approval of N2 billion relief support for victims of violence in Plateau State, asking why similar interventions had not been extended to victims in states such as Borno, Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Kwara.
The group further referenced reports of a N1.2 billion donation allegedly distributed among 19 northern states ahead of the Eid al-Kabir celebrations, arguing that the difference in figures raised serious concerns about fairness and equity.
According to the organization, the government must ensure equal treatment of all religious groups and avoid actions capable of deepening division or creating perceptions of exclusion.
MURIC also called for the allocation of land and funding for the construction of a national mosque comparable to the airport chapel project, insisting that justice and inclusivity must guide government decisions.
The group urged the Federal Government to address the growing concerns among citizens and reaffirm its commitment to fairness, religious balance, and national unity.
