A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and member of the David Mark-led National Working Committee (NWC), Fabiyi Oladimeji, has ruled out the possibility of a Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso presidential ticket delivering victory for the party in the 2027 general election.
Oladimeji, who serves as the Deputy National Financial Secretary of the party, made the declaration while addressing journalists in Abuja on Wednesday.
He argued that only a joint ticket involving former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi possesses the numerical strength needed to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next presidential election.
According to him, an analysis of the 2023 presidential election results shows that an Obi-Kwankwaso alliance would not gather enough votes to unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC.
“The best number is Atiku and Obi,” Oladimeji stated.
He explained that the combined votes of Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Kwankwaso in the 2023 election stood at about 14 to 15 million, compared to President Tinubu’s eight million votes.
Oladimeji stressed that if the major opposition figures unite behind a single ticket, especially Atiku and Obi, the outcome would be significantly different.
He further disclosed that Atiku has already pledged to support whoever emerges as the party’s candidate, while former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has made a similar commitment.
He then urged Peter Obi to make the same sacrifice, insisting that the 2027 election should be about rescuing Nigeria rather than personal ambition.
The development comes amid growing political realignments and coalition talks ahead of the 2027 general election, as opposition parties continue efforts to build a stronger front against the APC.
