Troops of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, operating under the 2nd Division, have rescued a mother and her six-month-old baby following a kidnapping incident in Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 12 Brigade, Lt. Hassan Abdullahi, confirmed that the attack occurred late on June 3, 2026, when armed men invaded a residence near Solid Rock School in Ijalu, Egbe, and abducted five members of the same family, including a nursing mother, her infant, and three other relatives.
According to the Army, troops responded swiftly after receiving a distress call and immediately mobilised alongside members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) to track the attackers.
The combined security team pursued the kidnappers along their escape route, maintaining pressure on them throughout the operation.
The sustained pursuit forced the abductors to abandon the mother, identified as Mrs. Adekemi Idowu, and her six-month-old baby along the Oro axis, where they were safely recovered and reunited with their family.
Military authorities confirmed that search and rescue operations are still ongoing to locate the remaining abducted family members and apprehend the perpetrators.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, while urging residents to provide timely and credible intelligence to support ongoing counter-kidnapping operations in the state.
