Tinubu Confirms Elimination Of Top ISIS Commander In Joint Nigeria-U.S. Military Operation

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has confirmed the killing of a senior ISIS leader, Abu-Bilal Al-Manuki, also known as Abu-Mainok, during a joint counterterrorism operation carried out by Nigerian and United States forces in the Lake Chad Basin.

In a statement issued from the Presidential Villa on Saturday, Tinubu described the overnight operation as a major breakthrough in the ongoing war against terrorism and violent extremism in the region.

According to the President, the coordinated mission involved close collaboration between the Nigerian Armed Forces and the United States military, resulting in the elimination of Abu-Mainok alongside several of his fighters during a targeted strike on their hideout in the Lake Chad Basin.

Tinubu said the operation reflects the strengthening security partnership between Nigeria and the United States in confronting terrorist threats and safeguarding regional stability.

“Nigeria appreciates this partnership with the United States in advancing our shared security objectives,” the President stated.

He also expressed appreciation to U.S. President Donald Trump for his support and commitment to counterterrorism cooperation with Nigeria.

The President further commended military personnel from both countries for what he described as their bravery, professionalism and dedication throughout the operation.

Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustaining aggressive military offensives against terrorist groups, insurgents and criminal networks operating across the country.

He added that Nigeria would continue to strengthen international security cooperation aimed at restoring peace, stability and safety in affected communities.

The latest development follows an earlier statement by President Trump, who praised Nigerian troops after the successful joint mission and described the operation as a significant blow to ISIS’s global network.
