The Presidency has called for legal action against social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VDM, over the circulation of an alleged fake audio linked to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, made the call in a post shared on X on Wednesday, accusing VDM of spreading false information through social media platforms.
According to Onanuga, the influencer should face the full weight of the law for allegedly distributing manipulated audio content purported to involve President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He described the act as a serious abuse of social media and warned against the spread of misinformation capable of misleading the public.
The presidential aide was reacting to comments made by an X user identified as Aneex, who questioned why some Nigerians believed the voice in the controversial recording belonged to the President.
The user reportedly described the audio as propaganda and accused VDM of taking advantage of public emotions to push false narratives online.
The controversy has continued to generate reactions across social media, with supporters and critics debating the authenticity of the audio recording and the implications of spreading unverified digital content.
The Presidency, however, maintained that the audio was fake and insisted that individuals responsible for its circulation should be held accountable under the law.
