The Nigeria Police Force in Akwa Ibom State has commenced activities marking the 2026 Police Week with a statewide environmental sanitation exercise and a free medical outreach programme.

Officers of the command were deployed across various communities, where they participated in cleaning markets, clearing roads, and improving public spaces as part of efforts to promote a healthier environment.

The initiative also featured a medical outreach that provided residents with free consultations, health screenings, and essential medications, benefiting hundreds of people across the state.

Speaking during the exercise, the Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, said the activities reflect the core values of Police Week, which emphasise service, community engagement, and partnership.

He urged residents to maintain cleanliness in their surroundings, noting that public safety is a shared responsibility between security agencies and the community.

Azare further reaffirmed the command’s commitment to community-oriented policing, stressing that initiatives like the clean-up and medical outreach are aimed at strengthening trust and improving relations between the police and the public.

The Police Week activities highlight a broader approach to policing that goes beyond law enforcement to include community service and public welfare.
