An aspirant seeking to represent Sabon Gari Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mahmud Sadisu Buba, has withdrawn from the race amid controversy surrounding his age.
The withdrawal comes after reports emerged alleging that the politician, popularly known as “Abin Al’Ajabin Zazzau,” was born in August 2010, raising questions about his eligibility for elective office under Nigeria’s constitutional age requirements.
In a letter addressed to the Kaduna State chairman of the APC, Buba said his decision followed reconciliation efforts by party leaders and stakeholders.
According to him, consultations with his family, political associates and party stakeholders convinced him that stepping down was necessary for the unity and progress of the party ahead of the election.
He stated that supporting a consensus candidate would strengthen the APC’s chances of victory in the constituency and contribute to the continued development of Kaduna State.
Buba expressed appreciation to Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, and the APC leadership for giving him the opportunity to participate in the party’s nomination process.
He described his experience during the contest as rewarding and thanked his supporters for standing by him throughout the political process.
The aspirant stressed that his withdrawal should not be interpreted as weakness, but rather as a sacrifice made in the interest of party unity and success.
He also pledged to work for the victory of the APC’s eventual candidate and urged his supporters to remain peaceful, united and committed to the party.
