APGA Will Not Field Presidential Candidate in 2027 – Soludo

By Nworisa Michael

Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State has disclosed that the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) will not present a presidential candidate in the 2027 general elections.

Soludo made this known during a media chat in Awka, the state capital, just days after being sworn in for a second term in office. According to him, the party has adopted a similar approach in the past, recalling that in 2011, APGA did not field a candidate but instead backed then-President Goodluck Jonathan.

The governor also expressed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing him as a friend and affirming that both at personal and party levels, APGA aligns with the current administration. He added that Tinubu has performed well since assuming office in 2023 and deserves a second term.

Soludo emphasized that his position is also driven by the interest of the people of Anambra State, noting that political alignment with the central government could help ensure greater representation and benefits for the state. He further stated that Tinubu’s re-election prospects remain strong, with or without APGA’s support.

On state matters, the governor addressed his administration’s recent crackdown on certain native doctors, clarifying that the government is not opposed to traditional religion. However, he warned that some individuals have exploited traditional practices as a cover for criminal activities, including aiding kidnappers and engaging in harmful rituals.

He stressed the need to distinguish between genuine traditional practices and criminal acts, adding that the government remains committed to identifying and dealing decisively with those involved in unlawful activities.
