The Abia State Ministry of Women Affairs has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening partnerships aimed at advancing gender equality and protecting the rights of women and girls across the state.
This followed a courtesy and advocacy visit by representatives of Innovation Hub For Inclusive Empowerment & Social Development (SieDi-Hub) led by Mr. Paul-Lord Okpara to the Ministry, where they held discussions with the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr. Maureen Ijeoma Aghukwa, on collaborative strategies to enhance women-centred development initiatives.
Central to the engagement was the need to strengthen the Abia State Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Dashboard to support data-driven prevention, reporting, and response to cases of abuse. Stakeholders at the meeting noted that improved data coordination remains critical to early intervention, accountability, and survivor support.
The discussions also covered strategic planning for impactful activities ahead of the 2026 International Women’s Day, as well as broader collaboration on initiatives focused on women’s safety, empowerment, and equitable access to opportunities across communities in the state.
Speaking during the meeting, Dr. Aghukwa emphasised the importance of sustained partnerships between government institutions and civil society organisations in addressing gender-based challenges, noting that inclusive collaboration is key to translating policy commitments into measurable outcomes for women and girls.
SieDi-Hub, on its part, expressed readiness to support the Ministry through technical expertise, advocacy, and community-level engagement, stressing that protecting women’s rights and amplifying their voices must remain a shared priority.
Both parties expressed optimism that the renewed collaboration would lead to tangible interventions that improve the safety, wellbeing, and socio-economic participation of women and girls in Abia State.
