The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a public health alert warning Nigerians about the recall of Indomie brand Vegetable Flavour noodles due to the presence of undeclared allergens that could pose significant health risks.

According to the agency’s announcement, the recall follows a notification from the French food safety authority, which identified the product as containing milk and eggs that were not listed on the label. These undeclared allergens may trigger severe allergic reactions in individuals with allergies or intolerances to these substances.

NAFDAC’s Public Alert No. 041/2025 states that although the risk of the affected product entering Nigeria through official channels is considered low due to the Federal Government’s existing ban on noodle importation, there remains a need for heightened vigilance. The agency emphasised that the recalled Foreign Indomie Vegetable Flavour noodles could still enter the country through unofficial channels such as online purchases or international travel.

In response to the alert, NAFDAC has directed its zonal directors and state coordinators to intensify surveillance and vigilance activities across markets and distribution points. Officials have been instructed to monitor and confiscate any stocks of the recalled product found within supply chains nationwide.
Consumers, distributors and retailers have been urged to avoid selling, distributing or consuming the Vegetable Flavour noodles implicated in the recall. Members of the public who encounter the product are advised to discard it immediately and report any suspected cases to the nearest NAFDAC office or through the agency’s reporting channels.

The regulatory body also encouraged consumers to report any adverse reactions or side effects linked to the consumption of the recalled product as part of its ongoing efforts to safeguard public health and ensure compliance with food safety standards.
