IGP Approves Promotion of 17,952 Junior Police Officers Nationwide

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has approved the promotion of 17,952 junior officers of the Nigeria Police Force in a move aimed at improving personnel welfare, boosting morale, and strengthening operational efficiency across the country.

The promotion exercise, which cuts across commands and formations nationwide, affects officers in different junior ranks. Under the new promotions, 165 Sergeants were elevated to the rank of Inspector, 73 Corporals advanced to Sergeant, while 17,714 Constables were promoted to the rank of Corporal.

According to the Police High Command, the exercise is part of ongoing efforts to recognise hard work, professionalism, and commitment among officers and men of the Force.

Speaking on the development, IGP Disu described timely promotions as a vital component of effective human resource management, noting that rewarding deserving officers remains essential in motivating personnel to carry out their constitutional responsibilities efficiently.

He said the promotions reflect the commitment of the current police leadership to merit-driven career advancement, institutional growth, and improved welfare for personnel.

The police boss congratulated the newly promoted officers and urged them to see their elevation as a call to greater responsibility and dedication to service.

He further charged the officers to uphold the core values of the Nigeria Police Force by demonstrating discipline, professionalism, integrity, and respect for human rights while carrying out their duties.

Disu reiterated the Force’s commitment to strengthening institutional capacity, rewarding excellence, and implementing reforms aimed at improving service delivery and enhancing operational effectiveness nationwide.

The latest promotion exercise is expected to further boost motivation among personnel and support ongoing reforms within the Nigeria Police Force.
