Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has disbursed ₦50,000 each to 6,680 women across the state as part of efforts to empower vulnerable groups and support household livelihoods.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad.

The disbursement ceremony, held at the Government House in Kano on Saturday, attracted thousands of women drawn from the 44 Local Government Areas of the state, alongside members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking at the event, Governor Yusuf explained that the monthly ₦50,000 empowerment grant is designed to strengthen petty trading and small-scale businesses among beneficiaries, thereby improving their economic conditions.

He noted that the programme has been ongoing since the inception of his administration, adding that it has already led to noticeable improvements in the standard of living of many less privileged women across the state.

The governor assured residents of his administration’s continued commitment to delivering people-oriented policies and programmes, urging them to sustain their support.

Yusuf also expressed appreciation to the Kano State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Jibril Ismail Falgore, as well as chairmen of the 44 local government councils and party stakeholders, for their support in ensuring the success of the initiative.

In his remarks, Speaker Falgore urged beneficiaries to utilise the funds judiciously, describing the intervention as a meaningful opportunity to improve their livelihoods.

Other stakeholders who spoke at the event, including a member of the House of Representatives representing Fagge Federal Constituency, Barrister Shehu, the Chairperson of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Kano State, Hajiya Saadatu Yushau Soja, and the APC Women Leader, Hajiya Fatima Abdullahi Dala, commended the governor for prioritising human capital development.

They noted that the initiative is already making a direct impact on the lives of ordinary citizens, particularly women engaged in small-scale economic activities across the state.
