Kano State has marked a significant step toward enhancing peace and security with the inauguration of the Technical Working Group on Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (PCVE). The inauguration was done by Hon. Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, the State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs and was made via his official social media handle.

The committee, coordinated by the office of the National Security Adviser, is expected to play a central role in shaping strategies that address the root causes of violent extremism and promote safer, more united communities across Kano State.

The inauguration brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including commissioners, traditional and religious leaders, security agencies, civil society organizations, legal practitioners, as well as national and international partners. Hon. Waiya highlighted that peace is a shared responsibility and that government alone cannot build lasting security it requires the active involvement of all citizens.

During the ceremony, Hon. Waiya emphasized the importance of developing a community-driven, evidence-based State Action Plan that reflects the realities and needs of Kano’s communities. He also directed the committee secretariat to submit a costed operational plan within three months, in preparation for the planned launch of the Kano State Action Plan by the end of the first quarter of 2026.

“Today’s inauguration represents our collective commitment to protecting our communities and tackling violent extremism with justice, compassion, and unity,” Hon. Waiya said. “Together, we move toward a more peaceful Kano, ensuring that our efforts today benefit future generations.”

The establishment of the Technical Working Group underscores Kano State’s proactive approach to peacebuilding and security under the administration of Governor Alh. Abba Kabir Yusuf.
