Police Recruitment: PSC Extends Deadline as Over 400,000 Apply Nationwide

By Nworisa Michael

The Police Service Commission (PSC), in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, has extended the deadline for the ongoing recruitment of 50,000 police constables following an overwhelming nationwide response from applicants.
The extension, which shifts the closing date to February 8, 2026, was announced in a statement issued on Monday by the Commission’s Head of Protocol and Public Affairs, Mr. Torty Njoku Kalu.

According to the PSC, the recruitment portal, which opened on December 15, 2025, has so far recorded over 400,000 applications across the country. A review of the application data revealed uneven participation among states, prompting the decision to extend the exercise.

The Commission noted that while states such as Adamawa, Benue, and Kaduna recorded high numbers of applicants, other states including Lagos, Ogun, Bayelsa, Ebonyi, and Anambra showed comparatively low participation.

PSC explained that the extension was approved to ensure fairness and equitable representation in the recruitment process, giving eligible candidates from states with fewer applications additional time to apply.
The Commission urged qualified Nigerians, particularly those from underrepresented states, to take advantage of the extension and complete their applications before the new deadline.

It also called on state governments, local government authorities, traditional institutions, religious bodies, community leaders, and other stakeholders to intensify sensitisation efforts to encourage eligible youths to participate in the exercise.

Reaffirming its commitment to due process, the PSC assured applicants that the recruitment would remain transparent and strictly merit-based, adding that all stages of the exercise would be conducted in line with established guidelines.
The Commission reiterated that neither payment nor external influence would be required at any stage of the recruitment process.
