Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has approved the constitution of a high-powered steering committee to oversee the establishment and operation of the Gombe State Technology and Innovation Hub, a project aimed at driving innovation, enterprise development and economic diversification in the state.
The approval was conveyed through a statement issued on January 22, 2026, by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, and signed by the Director-General of Press Affairs, Government House Gombe, Ismaila Uba Misilli.
According to the statement, the committee is tasked with providing strategic direction, policy guidance and oversight to ensure that the technology hub delivers measurable impact, attracts strategic partnerships and supports young innovators, entrepreneurs and start-ups across Gombe State.
Professor Njodi stated that the steering committee would ensure the hub is properly positioned to deepen innovation, stimulate enterprise growth and contribute meaningfully to the state’s economic diversification agenda.
The committee will be chaired by the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Development, Hon. Salihu Baba Alkali, and includes key government officials, academics, investment experts and private sector representatives. The Director-General of Research and Documentation, Ahmed Hussain, will serve as the committee’s secretary.
The Gombe Technology and Innovation Hub, also known as GOTECH-HUB, is designed to serve as a catalyst for value creation and growth in critical sectors such as agriculture, solid minerals, science, technology and business.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya charged members of the committee to leverage technology, research and innovation to unlock the state’s economic potential, create jobs, empower young people and attract both local and foreign investments. He also emphasized the importance of collaboration between government, academia, the private sector and innovators to deliver practical, homegrown solutions.
The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to positioning Gombe State as a leading knowledge-driven economy in Northern Nigeria through sustained investment in technology and innovation.
