The Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs Hon. Comr. Ibrahim A. Waiya has reiterated the state government’s commitment to responsible public enlightenment and effective communication of government projects, programmes and activities across the state.
The commissioner made this known during a strategic engagement with Directors of Public Enlightenment from Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), as well as Local Government Information Officers, aimed at reviewing and strengthening how government activities are communicated to citizens in Kano State and beyond.
According to the commissioner, the engagement was part of ongoing efforts to ensure that government initiatives are coherently coordinated and professionally disseminated to achieve meaningful impact among residents.
He explained that the meeting focused on improving awareness and public understanding of government programmes, while also exploring ways to enhance feedback mechanisms from communities to better align development projects with the needs of the people.
The commissioner encouraged the Directors to introduce dedicated radio programmes and other outreach initiatives to regularly inform the public about ongoing projects and policies, noting that effective communication is key to promoting transparency and accountability.
He further stressed the importance of feedback from citizens, describing it as essential for assessing impact, motivating further development interventions and ensuring that government actions remain people-oriented.
While addressing participants, the commissioner cautioned information officers against politicising public duties, emphasizing that their primary responsibility should remain objective, citizen-centred and professional.
He also reaffirmed the ministry’s readiness to provide continuous training and necessary working tools to enhance professionalism and improve service delivery across information units in the state.
