By

The University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) has dismissed as false and malicious a viral social media video claiming that some of its students were arrested for allegedly collaborating with Boko Haram insurgents.
In a press statement signed by the University Registrar, Ahmad A. Lawan, the institution clarified that no student of UNIMAID has been arrested or linked to Boko Haram or any other extremist group, describing the report as baseless and misleading.

The university management reaffirmed its zero tolerance for extremism, violence, or criminal activity, noting that UNIMAID has consistently played a leading role in countering violent extremism, promoting peace, and supporting national security efforts, especially in Nigeria’s North-East.
According to the statement, the university community comprises disciplined, law-abiding staff and students from diverse backgrounds, whose primary focus remains academic excellence and positive character development.

Our students are trained in both character and learning, have consistently demonstrated good conduct, and remain committed to their academic responsibilities,” the statement added.
UNIMAID urged parents, guardians, media organizations, and the general public to disregard the viral misinformation, warning that the spread of unverified content could create unnecessary panic and harm the institution’s reputation.

The university reaffirmed its commitment to academic excellence, moral discipline, peace, security, and national unity.
