By Nworisa Michael

The Kano State Government has expressed deep shock over the passing of Barrister Maryam Abubakar, Director of Programmes at the Centre for Awareness on Justice and Accountability (CAJA).
The condolence message was contained in a statement posted on the official Facebook page of the Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, on Monday.

According to the statement, the late Barrister Maryam Abubakar was described as a committed legal practitioner and a passionate advocate for justice, accountability, and women’s rights, whose death represents a significant loss to the legal profession and the civil society community.

The commissioner noted that her dedication to promoting the rule of law, social justice, and good governance distinguished her as a woman of integrity and selfless service, adding that her contributions to society would be greatly missed.

On behalf of the Kano State Government, under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, Waiya extended heartfelt condolences to the management and staff of CAJA, the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), the Nigerian Bar Association (Kano and Ungogo Branches), the broader civil society community in Kano State, and the family of the deceased.

The statement acknowledged that her passing has created a vacuum that would be difficult to fill, given her commitment to justice and public accountability.
The Kano State Government also prayed that Almighty Allah grants the departed soul eternal rest in Jannatul Firdaus and gives her family, colleagues, and associates the strength to bear the irreparable loss.
