A radio broadcaster, Moh, a former On-Air Personality (OAP) with Cool FM Kano and current Head Manager of Al-Ansar Radio 96.1 FM, Maiduguri, has addressed the recurring debate over whether Muslims can eat food during the Christmas season.
Moh shared his views in a post on his Facebook page, where he referenced Islamic teachings to explain that Islam permits Muslims to eat food prepared by Christians and Jews, recognised in Islam as Ahlul-Kitab (People of the Book).

He cited Qur’an 5:5, which states that the food of the People of the Book is lawful for Muslims, noting that the ruling applies without seasonal or cultural exceptions, provided the food itself is permissible.
According to him, eating food does not amount to religious worship and does not affect a Muslim’s belief system, stressing that sharing a meal does not imply religious participation or conversion.

Moh attributed the annual controversy surrounding Christmas food to misunderstanding of Islamic teachings and urged Muslims to rely on sound knowledge rather than inflammatory rhetoric.
He added that Islam is a confident faith that is not threatened by social interaction or communal coexistence, including sharing meals during festive periods.
His comments have sparked conversations online as the Christmas season approaches, with users expressing varying views on religious coexistence and cultural practices.
