The Kano State Government has intensified preparations for the take-off of the Safe Corridor Programme, a non-kinetic initiative aimed at tackling daba fight, political thuggery, and other security-related challenges in the state.
As part of the preparations, the Coordinator of the programme and Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, on Sunday led members of the programme committee on an inspection tour of facilities at the Corporate Security Institute in Gabasawa.
The committee inspected accommodation facilities, training halls, classrooms, sports areas, and other key structures expected to support the implementation of the programme.
The Safe Corridor Programme is designed to promote rehabilitation, empowerment, reintegration, reorientation, and peace building as part of efforts to strengthen security and social stability in Kano State through non-kinetic measures.
Speaking during the inspection, Waiya said the initiative demonstrates the commitment of the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to promoting peace, community development, and social stability through dialogue, sensitisation, and empowerment programmes.
He stated that adequate arrangements were being put in place to ensure a smooth and successful commencement of the project, adding that the committee remains committed to delivering on its mandate.
According to him, the Kano State Government is determined to address the growing challenges of daba activities and political thuggery through sustainable and community-based solutions.
Members of the committee expressed satisfaction with the level of preparedness at the facility, noting that final arrangements were being concluded ahead of the official launch of the programme.
Some of the dignitaries who participated in the inspection tour included Alhaji Shehu Mohammed, Sarkin Shanu; Alhaji Aliyu Umar Harazimi, Dan Amar and Hakimin Gobirawa; the State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Alhaji Lawan Dahiru; businessman Alhaji Sabiu Bako; representatives of civil society organisations; and other critical stakeholders.
The committee reiterated that the programme would play a significant role in addressing youth-related violence and strengthening peace across communities in Kano State.
