Two women have been arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over the alleged theft of ₦1.2 million belonging to their employer.
The defendants, identified as Sule Joy, 32, and Omowumi Temilade, 22, were brought before the court on a three-count charge bordering on stealing and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.
According to the prosecution, the alleged offences were committed between August 2025 and May 10, 2026, at Dalimore Junction in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, where the two women reportedly worked as sales girls for the complainant, Mrs Omolara Akanbi.
Police prosecutor, ASP Olasunkanmi Bamikole, told the court that Joy allegedly diverted ₦804,210 generated from cloth sales and failed to remit the money to her employer.
He further alleged that Temilade also converted ₦408,610 from sales proceeds for personal use without proper remittance.
The prosecutor added that both defendants conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause public disturbance and breach the peace.
According to him, the offences contravene Sections 302 and 181(1)(d) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Counsel to the defendants, Mrs Joy Egbuson, appealed to the court to grant them bail, assuring that they would not abscond during trial.
Chief Magistrate Bankole Oluwasanmi subsequently granted each defendant bail in the sum of ₦80,000 with one surety each.
The case was adjourned until July 13 for hearing.
