DSS Arraigns Blogger ‘Justice Crack’ Over Alleged Incitement Against Nigerian Army

The Department of State Services (DSS) has arraigned a Nigerian blogger and activist, Justice Mark Chidiebere, popularly known as Justice Crack, before the Federal High Court in Abuja over allegations of incitement against the Nigerian Army.

Sources indicate that shortly after the court proceedings on Monday, the activist was returned to DSS custody, raising concerns among supporters over his continued detention.

Security presence was reportedly heavy at the court premises, with journalists denied access to cover the proceedings. Meanwhile, members of the Take It Back Movement and other activists staged a protest outside the court, calling for his immediate release and insisting on his innocence.

The case follows earlier controversy surrounding the activist’s arrest and detention. He was initially handed over to the DSS by the Nigerian Army amid allegations that he was subjected to inhumane treatment while in military custody.

Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore had criticised the development, accusing security agencies of attempting to legitimise what he described as unlawful detention rather than granting the blogger unconditional release.

According to family members, the activist’s ordeal began after he publicly criticised the military over the alleged extrajudicial killing of a civilian and raised concerns about poor welfare conditions among soldiers.

However, the Nigerian Army has defended its actions, alleging that the blogger engaged in activities capable of inciting discontent within its ranks and undermining military discipline.

Military authorities maintained that his actions could have broader implications for national security, justifying the steps taken against him.

The case continues to draw attention from civil society groups and rights advocates, with calls for due process and respect for human rights as legal proceedings unfold.
