The Kano State Police Command has foiled a violent thuggery attack in the Gyadi-Gyadi area of the state and arrested six suspected hoodlums following a clash between rival ‘Yan Daba groups.
The Command said the operation was carried out in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on visibility policing and proactive response to public disturbances.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the incident occurred on April 27, 2026, at about 1:20 p.m., when the police received a distress call indicating that suspected ‘Yan Daba thugs had mobilised for a violent confrontation in Gyadi-Gyadi Quarters.
Following the report, patrol teams were immediately deployed to the scene where officers met a violent clash already in progress between the suspected rival groups.
During the unrest, an ambulance was vandalised, while the hoodlums also attempted to attack other locations within the area.
Police operatives swiftly confronted the suspects in an effort to restore order. However, the hoodlums reportedly regrouped and launched an attack on the officers using dangerous weapons and stones.
The attack was professionally repelled by the police, forcing the suspects to flee toward Farm Centre Market, where they allegedly attempted to break into shops and loot property.
Reinforcement teams were immediately mobilised to the area, leading to the further dispersal of the hoodlums and the arrest of six suspects linked to the incident.
The police confirmed that calm has since been restored to the affected communities and normal activities have resumed.
Commending the officers involved in the operation, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, praised the gallantry, restraint, and professionalism displayed by personnel of the Farm Centre Division and the reinforcement teams.
He said their swift intervention prevented a further breakdown of law and order as well as the destruction of lives and property.
The Commissioner also issued a stern warning against all forms of thuggery, ‘Yan Daba activities, and acts capable of disturbing public peace in Kano State.
He advised parents and guardians to caution their children and wards, stressing that anyone found engaging in criminal activities or violence would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The police said investigations are ongoing to arrest other fleeing suspects and identify those sponsoring the clash.
The Command also appreciated law-abiding residents who provided timely information that aided the operation and urged members of the public to continue reporting suspicious movements and criminal activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency lines.
