Kano Police Rescue 2-Year-Old Kidnap Victim, Arrest Three Suspects, Recover N930,000 Ransom

The Kano State Police Command has rescued a two-year-old kidnap victim unharmed, arrested three suspects, and recovered N930,000 from the ransom paid by the victim’s family following an intelligence-led operation.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the incident was reported on April 19, 2026, by a resident of Gwammaja Quarters in Dala Local Government Area, who said his two-year-old son, Aliyu Aliyu Muhammad, was abducted in front of their residence by unknown persons.

The kidnappers later contacted the family and demanded a ransom of N1 million, which was paid. However, despite receiving the money, they failed to release the child.

Following the report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, directed the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad to deploy all operational and intelligence assets to track down the suspects and rescue the victim.

The police said sustained follow-up operations and technical intelligence led to the identification of the suspects’ hideout and their eventual arrest.

The suspects arrested were identified as Hassan Umar, 26; Abdullahi Hamisu, 19; and Hussaini Saminu, 24, all residents of Gwammaja Quarters, Kano.

Investigation revealed that the kidnapped child was being held at the residence of Hussaini Saminu within the same community. He was successfully rescued unharmed and has since been reunited with his family.

Police also recovered N930,000, believed to be part of the ransom paid by the family.

CP Bakori commended operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad for what he described as professionalism, resilience, and tactical precision in rescuing the child without harm.

He also acknowledged the technical support and guidance from the Office of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, which contributed to the success of the operation.

The Commissioner reiterated the Command’s commitment to fighting kidnapping and other violent crimes in the state, warning criminal elements that Kano would remain unsafe for them.

He urged parents and guardians to closely monitor their children and report suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station.

Residents were also encouraged to support the police with credible information through the Command’s emergency lines.

Police said investigation is still ongoing, adding that the suspects would be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
