ADC Sokoto Reaffirms Chairman, Cautions Former Leader

By Nworisa Michael

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Sokoto State has reaffirmed the legitimacy of its current leadership and cautioned the immediate past chairman against actions that could mislead the public or distort the party’s internal structure.

In a statement issued after a review of recent developments within the party, the ADC maintained that Ibrahim Muhammad remains the duly recognized state chairman, urging members and the public to disregard any contrary claims. The party described attempts by the former chairman, Bala Usman, to act or speak on behalf of the ADC as “unauthorized and misleading,” insisting that his tenure ended following his suspension and subsequent removal by the National Working Committee.

According to the party, the leadership transition was carried out in line with constitutional procedures, and any attempt to undermine it amounts to deliberate misrepresentation. The statement further emphasized that party activities, engagements, and official communications must go through the recognized state executive under Muhammad’s leadership.

The ADC called on members to remain law-abiding and focused on strengthening the party ahead of future engagements. It also urged political actors in the state to avoid exploiting internal matters for personal advantage, warning that the party would not tolerate actions capable of causing confusion among its supporters.

The leadership appealed to security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to take note of the legitimate executives and to disregard unauthorized individuals parading themselves in the name of the party.
