BREAKING: ADC Insists on Congresses, Convention — Abdullahi

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has reaffirmed its decision to proceed with its scheduled congresses and national convention, despite the position of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) suspending recognition of the party’s leadership amid an ongoing legal dispute.

Speaking on a Thursday morning programme on Arise TV Morning Show, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, stated that the ADC had complied with all legal requirements, including notifying INEC 21 days ahead of its planned activities.

Abdullahi noted that the commission acknowledged receipt of the notification but stressed that the party would not be discouraged by INEC’s current stance.

“We will go ahead with our congresses. We have given INEC 21 days’ notice, they have accepted. Whether they come or not, we will continue with our congresses and our convention,” he said.

INEC had earlier announced a temporary suspension of recognition for the ADC leadership following an internal crisis currently before the courts.

However, Abdullahi’s comments underscore the party’s determination to move forward regardless, raising the possibility of a standoff between the electoral body and the party leadership as the situation unfolds.
