Former Super Eagles Star, Henry Nwosu Dies at 60

Nigeria is mourning the loss of former Super Eagles midfielder and football legend Henry Nwosu, who passed away in the early hours of Saturday after days of battling for his life in hospital.

According to former Nigerian international Segun Odegbami, Nwosu died at about 4:00 a.m. at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital where he had been receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit since Wednesday.

Odegbami, who shared the heartbreaking news, expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the former midfielder, describing the announcement as one made with “deep pain in my heart.”

Nwosu, popularly nicknamed “Youngest Millionaire,” was one of Nigeria’s most talented midfielders during his playing career. He was a key member of the Nigeria national football team and played an important role in the country’s football history.

Throughout his career, Nwosu earned admiration for his creativity, vision, and leadership on the pitch. His contributions helped shape Nigerian football during the 1980s, and he remained a respected figure within the sport long after retiring from active play.

Tributes have begun pouring in from fans, former teammates, and members of the football community, many remembering him as a gifted footballer and a proud ambassador of Nigerian football.

Further details regarding funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family.
